Develop a Site That Sells

page two

Since customers do not buy during their first visit to your site, how do you get them to come back?? This is a key issue here. If you don't have a sticky website they won't come back, even if they have book marked your site.

There are many ways to get them to come back. One of the classic ways are to provide a free newsletter. Have it on your front page. Tell them it is free and tell them what they will gain by subscribing to your newsletter. Think of your targeted customer - what will they want from your newsletter?

Then tell the customer what to do to get your newsletter that will assist them with their needs. "Click here to subscribe..."

Many people are leery about giving out their email address. You must let them know that their email address will not be sold or rented to anyone else. Let them know their email address will be kept private and be sure and keep it private.

In your newsletter, always give away free information. If all you have are advertisements, people will unsubscribe right away.

While you are giving them free information to assist them, weave in your advertisements within the text and always tell them what the benefits are. Make sure your ads are directly targeted for your target audience.

  • Tell them what is new at your site and invite them back.
  • People will not buy from someone they don't trust. This is something you need to develop in your first page especially. Why should they trust you?
  • Make your site very clear. How many sites have you been to where you feel that you are not sure what the site is all about?
  • Don't overwhelm the customer with too much information or too much selection on the front page. This will also confuse them. Make it simple.
  • Don't use frames and little Javascript. The search engines don't like them, especially frames.
  •   What are the vital internet tools you absolutely must use to be effective on the internet - and where to get them (most of them free of cost!)?
  •   What is the most important thing you need to do before creating your website - and what most of the internet marketers never do (no wonder 99% of websites miserably!)?
  •   Which are the critical ingredients of money producing website and how to make sure you implement all of them?
  •   How to develop and implement a marketing plan for your internet business so that your site generates a continuous flow of qualified leads.
  •   How to follow up on your internet leads to inspire trust in your prospects, so that they want to do business with you (and only with you).
  •   How to make the best of affiliate programs - how to choose the ones that will be most profitable for you and how to take advantage of them.
  •   What does it take to launch your own affiliate program.
  •   How to create partnerships and joint ventures that will propel your financial success.

Keep all of your web pages under 30 seconds for a 28.8.

Shy away from bright colors that hurt your eyes.

Put your email address on every page in a very visible place. If possible, list your business address and phone number. This makes customers feel more trusting.

Putting your picture on your site makes customers feel that you are a real person and increases their trust.

More web tips include adding a lot of content to your site. If all people see is your product and/or ads, your site will not do well. Would you stay on a site that taught you nothing but just displayed ads? I wouldn't.

Offer something free on your website. I cannot emphasize this enough. There are many case examples of websites not getting traffic and/or sales, yet when they put up valuable free stuff, the traffic exploded and so did the sales. Remember, in order for your customer to buy from you, you must first develop their trust.

People love free stuff. The term "free stuff" is very high up on the list of what people type into the search engines so be sure to include it in your meta tags.

If you can, offer them a free trial download of your product, or a limited number of pages. Have them download it from your site. You are much more likely to make sales if you offer some part of the product free first. This will increase their interest in your product after they have had a taste.

In your free download, let them know what they will be getting in the paid version. Tell them how they need it. Give them reasons why they should buy it and offer a money back guarantee of your paid product. This is very important in developing trust with your customers. Always offer a money back guarantee.

You can also give away free stuff by using a link from free programs. If you want to sign up for these links and get paid for it, sign up for these affiliate programs like LinkShare Referral Program.  Plug into the network. and then sign on to the many programs offering free stuff. It's free to join.

Keep a watch on your competitor's site. In fact, study many websites. What are they saying? How do they have their website set up? Do they have good sales technique? If so, learn from it. Develop a good sales style. Write like you talk. Avoid big words, making sure everyone has a full understanding of your website. In fact, many of your customers will resent the use of big and hard to understand words.

Accept Credit Cards

Always accept credit cards on your website. Without this feature you will lose over 60% of your sales. People want to buy things now, especially while they are in the midst of your sales talk.

Be sure to offer your customers quick assistance in answering their questions. Again, they want assistance now.

I use PayPal on my mental health site. I have found them to be the most inexpensive of all and I have researched a lot of them. It is easy to put the code on your site, it's fast and easy to use for your customers. No start up fees or monthly fees. It is available in 38 countries as well.

Provide Testimonials

Provide testimonials on your website. This will mean you will have to follow up after purchases. Testimonials are a powerful sales tool.
